“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church…Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.” – Ephesians 5:22-24 (NKJV)
As wives, we have a role in the home to serve God, then our husbands and our children. We may have the serving God part locked down, but submitting to our husbands may be difficult. Your husband may have hurt you significantly, and you have unforgiveness in your heart that prevents you from submitting. That unforgiveness within you is a bacterium that can cause you to become stagnant in Christ.
Now, while you may think God understands my pain, He doesn’t want you to live in that state of stagnation. God has an excellent plan for your family. But His plan cannot unfold unless your link is fixed; the bacterium is destroyed. To live in rebellion to authority is to live in defiance of God Himself, Who ordains all authority, for our God is a God of order. Matthew 6:14 says, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you” – (NIV). Holding onto your unforgiveness and refusing to submit is refusing to submit to God’s authority.
Some years ago, I attended a Leadership camp. At that time, I had the ‘bacterium’ of unforgiveness against my husband. One morning, during devotion, I received my deliverance when I chose to forgive him upon hearing the Word of God. After I let that unforgiveness go, our family benefitted from a closer and more meaningful relationship. I now have a deep joy in my heart. I no longer lived under that weight of unforgiveness. Our relationship has improved, and we are able to accomplish things together. Submitting brought the blessing.
